About Me

Hi! My name is Charlotte. I have been doing the Keto Diet for about 2 years now. I started it because I suffered hypoglycemia and suffered from PCOS symptoms and many friends of mine told me about the diet. I really didn’t think much of it until I suffered from ‘unexplained’ infertility for years after being able to get pregnant (which sadly resulted in losses) previously before my PCOS symptoms began.

The Diagnosis:

I did a bit of research about the Keto Diet. It is recommended for PCOS because PCOS is caused from insulin resistance..which is what diabetics also suffer from. Which is why Keto is recommended for both medical conditions. Ironically, after multiple rounds of failed attempts using fertility meds from my doctor in hopes my husband and I would get pregnant with our dream kids one day, we had no such luck. I refused to accept my diagnoses of my infertility being explained, especially considering I was an overall healthy and strong young adult despite my fertility. So, that’s when I decided it was time to look at my lifestyle choices, I tried everything from switching to organic foods, excercising frequently, switching to organic makeup, using eco friendly bedding, having my husband’s fertility checked, etc. Nothing worked! Until I tried beginning my Keto journey!

The Results:

I gave up with the fertility meds after months of being unlucky. But only one month after switching to low carb food choices, I took a pregnancy test and BAM! Big Fat Positive!!

Pregnancy Complications

I quit the Keto Diet because I didn’t correlate that it really was the diet that had worked, but I was later diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes towards the end of my pregnancy. Sure enough, I was sent to a Nutrition Specailist who explained to me the importance of diet control by limiting my carbs and increasing my protein intake to prevent future complications around the time of my first sons delivery. I had to monitor my blood sugar multiple times daily and keep a record of the foods I ate and my blood sugar levels. I went on to deliver my son safely! I remained eating low carb to manage PCOS symptoms later down the road.

It worked…twice!

Yup, only 15 months later, I was delighted to see that I was pregnant with my second bouncing baby boy! We got pregnant the first month we decided we wanted another. I had been eating Keto for almost a year at that time. My PCOS symptoms were sparse and I imagine since I was pretty diet controlled, it helped immensely. I ate Keto all throughout my pregnancy and did NOT end up with Gestational Diabetes the second time around!

Heart Healthy Decisions

A very close loved one of mine was recently diagnosed with a heart condition, and survived his operation, Thank God! But it definitely opened my eyes to my own miracle low carb diet being not so friendly in the heart department! Eating keto is generally loaded with red meats and cheeses, which clog the arteries, and are not healthy in the long run. So why not have both a wonderful diet plus a healthy heart? That’s what inspired me to create this site! Feel free to comment below with any ideas, tips, suggestions, personal stories etc. about why you want to try the Heart Healthy Keto Diet!
